UUSD’s First Spring Egg Hunt

April 17, 2022: The Children’s Faith Exploration Program focused on the 7th Principle by examining spring changes in nature. They also made bunny baskets to hold the eggs they collected in an exciting spring egg hunt after the Sunday service. Covenant groups had filled the eggs with delicious goodies! UUSD Cares Valentine’s Giving Parade

It was a beautiful day for the UUSD Cares Valentine’s Giving Parade for the Community Resource Center and the Shepherd’s Office. Over 85 members were involved. We filled eight SUVs with warm clothing, food, personal products, one with household cleaning supplies, and one with baby care items. UUSD Cares includes these committees: Fundraising, Social Justice, Pastoral Care, Membership, & Communications.

UUSD Humanist Winter Celebration, December 16, 2021

Humanists celebrate human values of love, beauty, creativity, internal meaning and purpose, dedication to community, and working for a better world. In this season of the year, throughout the world, people of different cultures look inside themselves and respond to the challenges of cold, darkness, and seek to uplift the community.

UUSD’s Chalice Sculpture — December 2021

UUSDS’ beautiful Chalice Sculpture was revealed in a Dedication Ceremony on December 12, 2021. This video tells the story of the almost five year journey of the chalice from conception to the unveiling and Dedication Ceremony.

Equinox Celebration & Drumming

UUSD members and friends gathered to celebrate the earth cycle of fall and harvest. Drumming and ceremony honored the abundance of our earth and the balance of light at this time of year.

Our Journey Together

UUSD joyfully called Rev. Heather Rio Starr as our new settled minister in 2021. Here are the highlights of candidating week, the call to ministry, and the beginning of our journey together to build Beloved Community.

Rev. Heather’s First Service at UUSD

Rev. Heather held her first Sunday service as as the Settled Minister for the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware on August 8, 2021. It was her first in-person service since March of 2020. The congregation embraced Rev. Heather as she began her journey with us. At the end of the service the Ministerial Search Committee presented her with a uniquely designed stole in the vibrant colors of the sea and coastal areas.

Farewell and Fare Thee Well

UUSD’s second outdoor service was held on June 20, 2021. We said Farewell to Rev. Paula Maiorano, our Transition Minister, and celebrated her time with us.

UUSD Cares Valentine Giving Parade, February 14, 2021

Donations to the UUSD Cares Valentine Giving Parade came from 55 cars and 88 members who dropped off food, personal products, cleaning products, baby products, and winter coats and clothing. UUSD Cares helpers handed out chocolate kisses, handmade miniature glass hearts, and Valentine Cards to everyone who donated the much-needed goods for the Community Resource Center and The Shepherd’s Office.

UUSD’s First Outdoor Service

On a cool, crisp, sunny fall day, UUSD held its first socially distanced, outdoor, and virtual Sunday service to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the dedication of our new building.

The UUSD Cares Second Giving Parade (video) — August 25, 2020

On Sunday, August 25, 2020, during the time of COVID-19, the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware held a second Giving Parade in their parking lot. There were three stations available to drop off donations or pick up masks or postcards. Personal, cleaning, and baby products were requested for the Community Resource Center and Abriendo Puertas. The FUNdraising and Social & Environmental Justice Committees sponsored this UUSD Cares project.

The UUSD Cares Giving Parade — June 28, 2020

On Sunday, June 28, 2020, during the time of COVID-19, the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware held a Giving Parade in their parking lot for the Food Bank of Delaware. Donations of non-food items were requested. These products were especially important to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus throughout the community. The FUNdraising and Social & Environmental Justice Committees joined together in this UUSD Cares project.

UUSD  Bids Farewell to Rev. Michelle — June 21, 2020

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we not able to host a party to celebrate Rev. Michelle’s service to us in the usual way. Instead we held a “Drive Through” Parade, so we could say farewell and wish her well in her new calling.

Café and the Craft Faire, November, 2019

The first week in November was an exciting time for everyone at UUSD, when we kicked off two of our most important fundraisers of the year: the UUSD Café and the UUSD Craft Faire. Both the Café and the Craft Faire coincided with the Rehoboth Beach Film Festival, which hosted movies in our sanctuary.

Water Communion Service, Sept. 8, 2019

UUSD kicks off the church year with our annual water communion service. This is an intergenerational service where we gather together and share our hopes and dreams for UUSD through the metaphor of water.
