Peacemaking

Peacemaking – Peace takes many forms, from inner peace to international peace. Peacemaking includes addressing the gun culture and working to eliminate gun violence, domestic violence, and self-harming as well as military actions.   We honor those who serve in the military working to maintain the peace as well as those who conscientiously object to military service. Creating a culture of peace requires work at many levels.

As part of Peace Week Delaware, UUSD is working with the UU Peace Ministry Network’s Executive Director and peace pole donor, Mac Goekler, to dedicate and install Peace Poles in front of UUSD, in our sanctuary, and at locations in Rehoboth, Lewes, Georgetown, and Seaford.  The goal is to place these poles throughout Sussex County.

In support of this commitment, UUSD will continue to pursue peace and be a significant presence during Delaware Peace Week.  We will develop and implement actions in support of the Statement of Condemnation of Gun Violence adopted by the UUSD Board of Trustees in 2018.
