Women, Family, Gender Identity, and Sexual Orientation Justice
In our commitment to help empower and strengthen communities, we work on projects that help women, families, and the LGBTQ community become stronger so they can live lives free from discrimination, inequality, fear, and poverty.
Supporting Families and Women
Support for the Homeless — Volunteers make and serve meals at the Immanuel Homeless Shelter. In 2016, we chose to give our Share the Plate offering to the Shelter.
Donations to Area Food Bank — We collect non-perishable items for the Cape Henlopen Food Basket, which distributes food three days per week to hundreds of area residents.
Parents for Humanity — UUSD is hosting a Covenant group for families with children who may face discrimination because of their race, ethnic background, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
Support for Victims of Domestic Violence — UUSD supports the local domestic violence shelter by collecting luggage and toiletries for the residents and by donating a Sunday Share the Plate collection.
Supporting the LGBTQ Community
LGBTQ Welcoming Congregation — UUSD has been certified by the UUA as a Welcoming Congregation. This means we live out our commitment to sexual and gender diversity by including people who are LGBTQ at every level of congregational life.
