Worship

We gather together in spiritual community because we need constant reminders of what matters most in life. In a world of heartbreak and dehumanization, our congregations and communities call us to our better selves. We learn to live with more wisdom, more connection, and more compassion. By coming together in worship, we celebrate what is most important to us.

Our worship services are weekly reflections that weave together our own thoughts and experiences with music, beauty, poetry, and words that both comfort and challenge us.

Hybrid Worship Services – In-Person and Livestreamed

In order to keep our members, friends, visitors, and staff safe during the COVID pandemic, Sunday services are both in person and online. Here are guidelines for attendance issued by the UUSD Hybrid Task Force in February 2023.

  • UUSD is requiring that only vaccinated individuals (who are eligible to be vaccinated against COVID) attend in-person services.
  • Please stay home and enjoy our livestream if you have a fever, any other symptoms of illness, or if it’s simply a better option for you.
  • Mask wearing is encouraged but not required.

For those who prefer to watch from home, the online service is available on the UUSD website at uussd.org/livestream each Sunday at 9:55 a.m.

State-of-the-Art Air Purification System at UUSD

UUSD installed a state-of-the-art filtration and circulation system in 2021 that provides a high level of indoor air purification to assure the congregation of the safest possible environment when the building is in use. UUSD’s HVAC contractor installed air purifier systems on each of our 6 air handlers throughout the building which are 99% effective on all coronavirus strains, airborne and surface. The REME-HaloLED units are the latest generation of UV-C ionization products from RGF Environmental Group, Inc., and  are particularly effective on coronavirus (including SARS-CoV-2) and also substantially eliminate varieties of bacteria, mold and other airborne contaminants.

Recommendations for masking and distancing continue to need to be adhered to provide maximum protection in our indoor environment.

Living Our Faith

Our Unitarian Universalist faith is based on deeds, not creeds, so we try to live it on a daily basis. Our Sunday service messages call us to put our faith into action. Together and individually, we reach out and work together to fulfill our Mission: Nurture spiritual growth, Embrace diversity, Work for justice, and Strive for a loving world.

What Inspires Us

Come join us! You will be very welcome.

First In-person and Outdoor Service, Oct. 18, 2020 during COVID

In Rev. Paula’s words, “Wow! We did it!” On a cool, crisp, sunny fall day, UUSD held its first socially distanced, outdoor, and virtual Sunday service to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the dedication of our new building. This service offered a vision for the future of UUSD as it celebrated the journey from dreamers under a beach umbrella to its present site held sacred by the community of members and friends.
