Child Dedications
Because Unitarian Universalists believe that all children are born blessed, rather than sinful, we conduct child dedications instead of baptisms. Child dedication ceremonies are usually crafted by the parents, our minister, and our religious educator working closely together.
Child Dedications might include:
- A blessing for the new life of the child
- An expression of parental hopes for the child
- A promise by the congregation to support and nurture the child.
When does a Child Dedication take place?
- Child dedications are usually held during a Sunday worship service so that the members of our church community can also pledge support.
At what age should your child be dedicated?
- Some parents choose to dedicate their child shortly after birth.
- Others wait until the child is older and can understand the meaning of the ceremony.
Contact our minister if you would like her to officiate a child dedication.
