Building Beloved Community No Matter What
Mar 23 @ 10:00 am – 11:00 am

Sunday, March 23, 10 a.m., “Building Beloved Community No Matter What,” Rev. Sandhya Rani Jha (they/them): As many of us wrestle with what to do in this time of crisis, our movement and theological ancestors have some wisdom about creating community in hard times.

Raised in an interracial and multi-faith family and witness to the sometimes subtle (and sometimes obvious) ways that racism and xenophobia show up in our society, it is not surprising that Sandhya’s career has been marked by work to affect public policy change, religious liberty and an alternative voice to the religious right and around the issues of housing for all, as well as their work to build what Dr. Martin Luther King called a Beloved Community.

Sandhya provides anti-oppression, cultural humility, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consulting and coaching for companies, higher education institutions, non-profits, and faith organizations. A passionate reader and writer, Sandhya is the author of “Room at the Table,” and “Pre-Post-Racial America: Spiritual Stories from the Front Lines” (listed as one of the top five books on race and religion in 2015 by Publishers Weekly). Sandhya’s book, “Rebels, Despots, and Saints,” about ancestors (and activism), came out January 2023.

Sharing Our Stories

Each of us at UUSD has a different story to tell about how we found a spiritual home here. A few of us are life-long UUs but most are not, having come from a variety of other religious backgrounds or from no particular place of faith. Whatever our journey, sharing the stories of the paths we took helps connect us to each other and to the shared journey we are now making.
