UUSD will host a Free Soup & Bread Dinner followed by a movie on Friday, January 26. The movie “3 Degrees of Connection” examines the heritage of Lewes, Delaware, from the perspectives of people with different histories with the area, of different races and ages, and with varied research agendas. Come for both the meal and movie or for the movie only.  The dinner starts at 5:30.  The movie follows at 6:30.

We need volunteers from UUSD to bring soup, salad, bread, or dessert so we can feed our congregants and any outside guests who would like to join us for dinner. Sign up at UUSDCares@uussd.org with your name and food donation. We also would really appreciate you volunteering an hour of your time on Thursday, January 25, 4:00–5:00 p.m. to help set up for dinner. This is more fun than you think, especially when we have a lot of helpers.

The dinner is free for members of the community. They should register at

Movie description: Capturing the sense of a community in transition from past to future through a multi-lensed present, “3 Degrees of Connection” explores Lewes, Delaware, through its diverse—and at times conflicting— stories, history, and heritage. Richard Moore, the local producer, included a large cast of people who know the community well. A few of those people are:

  • Lewes Mayors and City Council members: Ted Becker, Tim Pitzert, Jeffrey Ross, Khalil Saliba, and Andrew Williams
  • Lewes African American Heritage Commission members: Trina Brown-Hicks, “Coach” Bill Collick, Rev. George Edwards, and Rev. Deborah McCaffity
  • Historians: Denise Clemons and Hazel Brittingham.

Location: Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware, 30486 Lewes Georgetown Highway, Lewes, DE 19958
