In Praise of Weeds

Please join us as UUSD member Rick Welk reflects on the reputation of weeds. The name suggests that they are something to get rid of–something undesirable. And yet, some have beneficial qualities and are beautiful in their own right.
Who, then, decides what is a weed and what is a flower? Remember William Shakespeare said, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” In the human garden, are there not flowers and weeds as well? Can we distinguish the difference there?
