A Motley Thanksgiving—Marj Shannon, UUSD Member
Last week, many of us gathered around communal tables to celebrate Thanksgiving. Those celebrations were perhaps especially, well, celebratory this year. They may also have been especially poignant or newly appreciated. Many of us gathered with our families—spouses, parents, kids, grandkids, miscellaneous cousins, or honorary aunts and uncles. My own gathering featured, as it does every year, my beloved family of choice. It’s a wonderful array of folks across spectra I’d never have imagined joining me when I was growing up in rural western Pennsylvania. It occurred to me to wonder: “How did I ever get from that traditional table to this marvelously diverse one?”
