Like so many congregations, even though the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware meet year round, UUSD holds an ingathering service. This is a time to reflect not simply on what I did on my summer vacation but rather to reconnect with the community. Often times, Unitarian Universalists celebrate this event by bringing water from wherever they might have been to mix with the water brought by others. Rev. Smith sees this as a type of communion in which individuals or families can express a deeper meaning of what they add to the larger water container, reflecting, perhaps, on the importance of where they had gone, as well as what it means to be back to their religious home.
