Dr. Marcelle Schiff

Schiff-PR-Color-webMarcie holds a Master of Music degree from Westminster Choir College of Princeton, NJ and a Doctoral degree in music education from Boston University. She is an active adjudicator, clinician, and performer. Before becoming Music Director at UUSD in 2012, she was an accompanist and vocal coach at First Unitarian in Wilmington for 15 years.

My hopes for music at UUSD grow from my deep belief that I am here to help explore ways to make music more powerful within the service, the community, and hopefully within each member of the congregation. I am very interested in the use of the voice as an expressive instrument, freeing the body and the spirit, allowing them to vibrate in harmony. Singing, be it in the choir or in the congregation, is at its essence an act of faith. It is a deep and personal mode of expression that exposes us to all within ear distance. In order to give life to those sounds, we must trust that we will be greeted with kindness and acceptance. It is my job to help build that trust and that faith in order to deepen your experience within this community and maybe even touch how you walk through your days. For me, the great joy of this work is that we get to walk that road together.
