Our Director of Lifespan Faith Development – Amber Peterson

Attending her first Unitarian Universalist service in April of 2007 at UUSD, Amber Peterson quickly became a member and volunteered for the choir and teaching children's religious education as her time allowed. She chaired the Lifespan Faith Development Committee in 2014 and worked closely with the Director on many aspects of the programs. She was hired as the Director of Lifespan Faith Development in March of 2015 when the previous Director retired.

Amber grew up in Millville, Delaware and graduated from the Indian River School District in 1993. Amber finished her Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Salisbury State University in 1998 after completing two internships at the Salisbury Zoo as a zookeeper and zoo educator. She worked for the Cape May County Zoo as a zookeeper and was then promoted to Education Coordinator in 2003, where she was responsible for creating informative and engaging programs of varying formats as well as implementing, scheduling and teaching those programs. She was also responsible for training, scheduling and supervising staff and volunteers to conduct programs as well. In 2005, Amber's first child was born, and she decided to work from home running her own business. This afforded her the opportunity to excel at working with a variety of personalities and further motivate, train, and work with volunteers, while caring for her family.

With her husband Gary and their two young children, Amber is happy to have found this warm, loving community with which to share this spiritual journey.

Welcome from our Director

Thank you for looking into our educational programs here at UUSD! You may be a parent looking for a safe community to share with your children, where they can question and explore their beliefs without preconceived "rules" or dogma. Or, you may be an individual looking for a way to connect to other like-minded people, to find a community to which you can belong, or to fill a spiritual void you can no longer ignore. Whatever your reason, something has led you here.

If your heart feels compassion, your mind is open, you value the Earth, and you show respect for others, even if you may not agree with them, then you may have found what you seek.

Our programs cover the lifespan from infant to adult. We provide nurturing care of our infants and kind, interactive play for our toddlers. Our Pre-K through High School programs include fun activities and topics drawn from many different faiths and concepts, as well as our own rich UU history. We also offer adult programs that nurture the mind, body, and spirit. Our worship services and programs vary greatly from week to week, so you are encouraged to attend multiple services before making a decision.

We cherish our wonderful community and work daily to live by our UU Principles, whether they accompany other religious beliefs or not. I welcome you to visit us or email me to see if what you are looking for matches what we have to offer. If this message is one of the reasons you decided to visit, ask for me! I would love to meet you! Thank you for taking the time to look into our programs, and I hope to see you soon!

May you find what fills your heart.
